Effect of diffusion on fluorescence decay

چکیده
The effect of non-radiative energy transfer and diffusion on the fluorescence decay of phenanthrene in the presence of acridine was observed in six solvents of viscosity 7 = 0.4 CP to 64.6 CP. The system obeys Stem-Volmer kinetics at low 7, Forster kinetics at high 7 and intermediate kinetics at medium 7. At 7 = 64.6 CP the decay obeys the Forster relation. At lower 7 it agrees satisfactorily with the relation of Yokota and Tanimoto, but it is less rapid than that predicted by Voltz et al.

Two-photon standing-wave fluorescence correlation spectroscopy.
A fluorescence correlation spectroscopy experiment that combines two-photon excitation and a standing-wave interference pattern is presented. The experimental correlation function can be analyzed using a simple expression involving (1) an exponential decay with time constant tau(f), which reflects diffusion across the interference fringes, and (2) a longer-lived decay with time constant tau(ome...
متن کاملInterpreting photoactivated fluorescence microscopy measurements of steady-state actin dynamics.
A continuum model describing the steady-state actin dynamics of the cytoskeleton of living cells has been developed to aid in the interpretation of photoactivated fluorescence experiments. In a simplified cell geometry, the model assumes uniform concentrations of cytosolic and cytoskeletal actin throughout the cell and no net growth of either pool. The spatiotemporal evolution of the fluorescen...

The subnanosecond fluorescence and motional dynamics of the tryptophan residue in the bacteriophage M13 coat protein incorporated within pure dioleoylphosphatidylcholine (DOPC) as well as dioleoylphosphatidylcholine/dioleoylphosphatidylglycerol (DOPC/DOPG) and dimyristoylphosphatidylcholine/dimyristoylphosphatidylglycerol (DMPC/DMPG) bilayers (80/20 w/w) with various L/P ratio have been investi...
متن کاملSingle particle versus ensemble average: from power-law intermittency of a single quantum dot to quasistretched exponential fluorescence decay of an ensemble.
Light-induced diffusion-controlled electron transfer is proposed as an underlying mechanism for the intermittency (power law and breakdown) of a single quantum dot and ensemble-averaged fluorescence decay. The intensity decay can be approximated to a stretched exponential expression. The physical links to the free energy gap, reorganization energy, electronic coupling, and diffusion correlation...
متن کاملDynamic structure of lipid bilayers studied by nanosecond fluorescence techniques.
Molecular motions in liposomes of dipalmitoyl-phosphatidylcholine (DPPC) were studied by nanosecond fluorescence techniques. As a fluorescent probe for the hydrocarbon region, 1,6-diphenyl-1,3,5-hexatriene (DPH) was used. Time courses of fluorescence intensity IT(t) and emission anisotropy r(t) of DPH embedded in DPPC liposomes were measured at various temperatures. The value of the fluorescenc...
